Seminar: Waterfront Planning in Vancouver

  • HKIP Office Unit 201, 2/F, Prosperity Millennia Plaza, 663 King’s Road, North Point Hong Kong (map)

About the Seminar:

In this seminar, Mr. Jackson will present the development and urban design qualities adopted in the City of Vancouver and the vitality of a growing city. Adding residential development adjacent to the downtown core while ensuring port links and improving transport hubs are crucial in shaping a city and connecting urban population. Mr. Jackson will give details about how this was achieved in Vancouver and how it relates to the Hong Kong’s waterfront.

About the Speaker:

Mr. Brian Jackson, MCIP, has joined the City of Vancouver as the General Manager of Planning and Development Services in 2012. Brian has been a practicing urban planner for 35 years, working in both the public and private sectors, in policy and current planning, in three jurisdictions across North America: British Columbia, Ontario and California.

As Manager of Toronto’s Waterfront in the Planning & Development Department for 7 years, Brian oversaw the high density, mixed use redevelopment of Toronto’s waterfront. As Senior Associate with IBI Group for 10 years in Southern California and Nevada, Brian led a variety of transit-oriented development studies related to new rapid bus and LRT transit initiatives, working with communities to create a vision for sustainable development around proposed transit stations. Finally, more recently, as Director of Development for the City of Richmond for 4 ½ years, Brian managed over $4 billion in development applications as well as a number of complex planning policy issues.
