Urban Redevelopment at Chung Ching Street, Sai Ying Pun
About the Technical Tour:
Henderson Land Development Co. Ltd. is now revitalizing the old urban communities in Sai Ying Pun with a new wave of urban art. The design of the residential twin towers in ‘Artlane’ (name of the cluster) attempts to reinterpret the chaotic urban fabric typical in the Hong Kong and create new vibrant urban spaces and streets for enjoyment by the general public.
The tour will review the process of transforming the old urban district into a new art and cultural cluster and explore each wall mural along the newly created urban space, streets and backlanes. A visit to the top floors of the newly completed tower will provide an overview of the whole Artlane development and see how the architectural and interior design responds to the surrounding area.
About the Tourism Promotion:
Inspired by the popular urban art murals in New York, London and Seoul, Henderson Land invited famous international and local artists to create murals based on the theme of ‘Arts and Music of SOHO’. Each gave free rein to their imagination, creativity and style, using walls, streets and even staircases as their canvas to create a series of urban art murals unique in Hong Kong.
Artlane is chosen by Hong Kong Tourism board as one of 4 major new tourist attractions of 2019, together with Xiqu Centre, Star Avenue and Tai Kwun, and widely promoted particularly during Hong Kong Art Basel in March 2019. It has offered a place for the tourists to discover wonderful street arts where artists have turned the building walls of King Ling Lane and Chung Ching St. into a kaleidoscopic canvas.
