Technical Visit to The Hong Kong Jockey Club University of Chicago Academic Complex | The University of Chicago Francis and Rose Yuen Campus in Hong Kong

Home to The Hong Kong Jockey Club University of Chicago Academic Complex | The University of Chicago Francis and Rose Yuen Campus in Hong Kong, the ex-Victoria Road Detention Centre at Mount Davis, a Grade 3 historic building, is a prime example of a successful heritage conservation and revitalization project.

The campus, which rises from two heritage buildings, is situated on a historically important site. From the late 1930s, it was part of the British Army's Jubilee Battery, used in the defence of Hong Kong during the Second World War. Later, it became home to the Victoria Road Detention Centre, known as the "White House". The Campus has successfully incorporated adaptive reuse strategies to create a new, modern educational facility, while integrating with and sustaining the preservation of key heritage buildings at the ex-Victoria Road Detention Centre.

An exclusive presentation and guided tour is arranged for HKIP members.

Gavin Tun, Executive Project Director of the University of Chicago Booth HK Campus, and Cindy Tsang, Director, Townland Consultants Limited (Project Planner) will share their experiences during the planning and design of the UC Hong Kong Campus. This will be followed by a guided tour of the Campus, Heritage Interpretation Centre, and grounds.

We hope members will find insights in this revitalisation project in terms of its adaptive reuse and heritage conservation. Details of the event are as follows:
