Smart City, Technology and Me

Few will dispute that technology has ingrained into the daily routines of everyone from children to adult, from work to leisure both wilfully or unconsciously. Smart city perhaps is one of the most trendy term among professionals, organizations, public figures and politicians for the past years. Technologies do not just affect our daily routines but will reshape many aspects of our cities in the years ahead.

As the professional charting the future, how smart city concepts and technologies interact with planners and town planning? Will planners leverage on or merely be the bystanders as the wheel of technology advances? On these and beyond, the Education and Training Committee will organise a seminar series (with 5 seminars from March to May 2019) for members to share the sights from government official, IT practitioner, technology consultant, researcher and planning professional under different perspectives from the broad smart city strategy to applying and utilising technologies related to town planning and our city. The themes of the series will include:

Theme 1: Smart City Blueprint for Hong Kong (Mr. Tony Wong, Office of the Government Chief Information Officer , Hong Kong SAR Government, 25 March, Monday)

Theme 2: Building Smarter Cities - Integrating FinTech with Town Planning (Mr. Emil Chan, Chairman of Fintech Committee of Smart City Consortium, 1 April, Monday)

Theme 3: Green and Greening in West Kowloon Cultural District (Mr. Derek Sun, Head, Planning & Development & Ms M.S. Lau, Manager, Park & Public Space Operation, West Kowloon Cultural District Authority, 24 April, Wednesday)

Theme 4: Autonomous and Connected Vehicles for Smart City (Mr. Stanley Ng,President of Asia Pacific Connected Vehicles Industry Association and CEO MapKing, 20 May, Monday)

Theme 5: Understand Our City through New Lens (5 June, Wednesday)

In the 4th part of the series, Mr Stanely Ng, President of Asia Pacific Connected Vehicles Industry Association and CEO of MapKing will talk about autonomous driving, connected vehicles and changes to transportation and parking under 5G, and the various impacts on planning and smart city development.
