Inclusivity Series - Universal / Barrier-free Design

 

Universal / barrier-free design is an integral component of an inclusive community.  It means designing buildings and spaces to be usable by all people, especially the physically-challenged.  Our city has in place statutory and guiding documents to guide universal / barrier-free design since the late-1990s.  After over two decades of implementation, how are we doing?  Let’s have the users tell us their first-hand experience in Hong Kong:

It is acknowledged that we will see a demographic shift in the population with greater portion of persons with disability and the elderly in the coming decades, provision of better barrier-free facilities are certainly required.  As usual, we make reference to international practices and see what we can take home:
