Sports City

 

In 2002, a review on sports policy in Hong Kong was conducted, with recommendation of strategic objectives to promote community participation in sports, strengthen support for elite sports development, and foster international sport events in Hong Kong.  Twenty years later, Hong Kong is still being criticized for falling short in promoting sports development. 

 

The Government has recently announced in its 2022 Policy Address that it will map out a 10-year development blueprint for sports and recreation facilities.  In this issue, let’s gain an appreciation of the matters, user’s perspectives and some of the trends surrounding this topic, such that we, as planners, can have more empathy and help to create a more vibrant and inclusive city that values sports participation and healthy lifestyles in our daily planning jobs.
