Urban Planning Symposium 2025
Planning for New Generation World Class City: Opportunities and Challenges of Urban and Rural Regeneration from Urban Planning Perspective
Last year, the Institute successfully organised the Hong Kong Planning Professionals’ Delegation to New York in mid-October 2025. The Delegation was fully supported by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York of the Hong Kong Government and funded by the “Professionals Participation Subsidy Programme” of the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau (CEDB) of the HKSAR Government.
Embracing the theme as “Planning for New Generation World Class City: Opportunities and Challenges of Urban and Rural Regeneration from Urban Planning Perspective”, the Delegation facilitated professional exchanges between Hong Kong’s practising planners and members of the planning firms, academic and professional institutions in New York. It also enabled us to keep abreast of the latest planning issues and policies, and infrastructure projects in New York through office and project site visits, walking tours and our anchor event - the Hong Kong x New York Urban Planning Symposium.
The Symposium aimed to compare and contrast the latest planning strategies for new generation world-class cities, specifically Hong Kong and New York, and explore the opportunities and challenges of urban and rural regeneration from urban planning perspective.
