ETC event (6 Dec 2025) - Tung Lin Kok Yuen  東蓮覺苑

The Education and Training Committee is launching a two-part series of visits featuring ‘Retracing Hong Kong History – Heritage and Conservation’ with guided tours and interactive exchanges with the concerned organisations.  You are invited to join the following visits to retrace part of the Hong Kong history, and experience the unique characters of those buildings and sites.

Tung Lin Kok Yuen  東蓮覺苑

Tung Lin Kok Yuen is a Buddhist monastery founded since 1935 at Shan Kwong Road, Happy Valley.  Declared as a monument in 2017, Tung Lin Kok Yuen pioneered the establishment of urban monastery model in Hong Kong, and is closely related to the family of Sir Robert Ho Tung.  The site has been maintained, preserved and operated under private ownership.  The building complex is an excellent example of blending Chinese and Western architectural styles of the 1920s and 1930s while embracing the wisdom of Buddhism.  Other than the enchanting design and physical fabrics, the building also houses many calligraphies and paintings from important figures of modern China.  The visit is a rare chance to see a hidden gem of the city.
